Difference

Level IV ballistic plates, also known as "Stand-alone" plates, have the unique capability of stopping ballistic threats using the plate alone. There is no need for a ballistic vest as the plate is specially designed to stop all the energy and fragments from the ammunition fired. Typically used for tactical operations or anti-terrorist work, these plates are crucial where the ammunition threat is unknown or if wearing a vest is deemed too cumbersome. The purpose of ICW plates is to provide enhanced protection against a specific threat in combination with a ballistic vest. While some fragments may surpass the plate, their energy is greatly reduced and can be effectively stopped by the vest worn underneath. ICW plates deliver superior comfort, less bulk and weight, when compared to stand-alone plates.
